My husband died in the summer of 2011 after a short illness. This
body of work is about death, the process of grieving, and about the
indelible presence of a person felt through the things they leave
behind. Having been invited to produce a body of work with the Joco
camera, a digital “Holga” with the distinctive “flaws” of lens blur and
edge falloff, it seemed appropriate to use the camera to express my
inherent feelings of conflict and loss. “Simple Man, Simple Dreams”
was his motto. The humble objects that constituted his personal
effects belie the complexity that was his soul.
